Our Roots Our Routes

OBON Festival 2023 – San Luis Obispo Buddhist Church

Obon is an annual, summer Buddhist celebration honoring ancestors. The San Luis Obispo and Guadalupe Buddhist Church honor this event every year. The ancestors' spirits are believed to return for the festivities and include dancing. Guadalupe Buddhist Church has celebrated Obon nearly every year since the temple was established in the early 1900s.
