We collaborated with local community member Pedro Arroyo of the Chicano SLO Archive to secure an HSI (Hispanic Language Institution) Mini Grant from Cal Poly, which enabled us to hire a History graduate student, Mia Lawrence, to help digitize archival materials documenting local Chicanx history. This work culminated in a fabulous historical installation in Cal Poly library during Fall 2025, and at the SLO History Center in Winter 2026.
We are continuing to seek funding to build the Chicano SLO digital archive and engage community members in collective meaning making of these materials. Together these activities will transform a privately preserved collection of history into a community informed and accessible public archive, strengthening representation, visibility and belonging.
